Japanese language ?
Posted on June 03rd, 2009 in Japanese Language
I'm trying to learn Japanese and I was wondering what software would be the best. I'm looking for something that would have fun games. I'm also planning to take a class but I want something for at home so that I'm always using the language so that I never loose it.

There is a site called http://www.japan-guide.com which has a forum that may be able to help you find more options for learning including a spot where you can even make pen-pal friends that may help you with your studies. I have over 15 pages of notes that I took from random sites that were listed in the forums of japan-guide. If you have a myspace, or facebook there are some cool language applications you can add to your page now that can help with learning. Myspace has an application called Japanese word of the day which lists one word each day where you can see how it is written in romaji, hiragana/katakana, and kanji, and it also allows you to hear how it is pronounced. Facebook also has that same application, and also has an application called kanjibox which is a lot like a flashcard game where you can practice hirgana, katakana, and kanji. I use both of the applications for my studies. There are also many groups you can join on both myspace, and facebook for language learning, or exhange, etc. You should check out some of those options. If your just beginning your studies keep in mind to start with hirgana, and katakana. It was one tip a friend of mine gave me since it is where Japanese themselves start when learning to read, and write in Japanese. I made a chart as part of my studies that actually has been quite helpful when trying to memorize the characters. It is where I started
Here's link to my chart if you want to try to use it for your studies: http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j150/SxyBbyRvr/HiraganaKatakana.jpg
